The Power of Solstice
For the first time since its founding in 1852 the Unitarian Church of Staten Island, experienced the pews in a circle during the Sunday, December 17, 2006 service. This Solstice Service was led by Consulting Minister, Nate Walker, who writes: “The power of solstice lies not simply in the astrological calculations of our position to the sun but in the metaphor of solstice: a reminder that the day may be waning but our hope continues to grows; the night may be long but the light leads on.”
Digital AIDS Vigil
Dec. 1, 2006: listen to an 8-minute digital vigil dedicated to the 65 million people infected with AIDS world wide. For we gather as one in resistance to the HIV and AIDS pandemic that has already infected 65 million people. We gather as one in memory of the children, women, and men – the racial and sexual minorities – who continue to suffer in silence. We gather as one in hope, aware that our collective solitary with all who suffer can promote awareness, can serve as education, and can heal prejudice. And together we stand as one in hope, one in memory, one in resistance.Click here for a transcript of the recording. Dr. Carolyn Clark on piano with vocalists Jill Huekel and Kevin Clark.
